Wilkie Collins Quote

Image
I'm currently reading Wilkie Collin's most celebrated novel, The Woman in White, and discovered this wonderful quote within the first few lines. It really is a rather good read, by the way, so if you haven't already enjoyed it, I suggest you go and find yourself a copy. For a classic text, it is much easier to read than you might imagine! MinaLima's Exquisite Fairy Tale Series

Image
MinaLima, the amazingly talented design team behind the props and paraphernalia of the Harry Potter franchise, have published a series of beautiful interactive fairytale books . A post shared by Karin (@karinlipski) on Mar 16, 2017 at 4:31am PDT I first discovered this series while looking for a gift edition of Beauty and the Beast (pictured above) which is truly one of the most beautiful books I own. Unlike most children's fairytale books, MinaLima editions feature interactive elements, such as pull-out maps, dials to change scenery, pop-ups, hidden treasures and more. These hardcover titles feature foiled covers and gorgeous illustrations throughout. This week marks the book birthday of the fourth book in the series, The Little Mermaid and Other Tales: A post shared by Miraphora Mina & Eduardo Lima (@minalimadesign) on Mar 14, 2018 at 9:56am PDT I can't wait to purchase my own copy of The Little Mermaid, it looks to be the best in the series so far! A further title is p

The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock - Book Review

Image
The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock by Imogen Hermes Gowar Reviewed by Amanda Kennedy on March 24th, 2018 The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock is Hermes Gowar's debut novel, an exquisite, slow-burning story of historical romance set in the late 18th century. Don't be deceived by the title: this is not steeped in magical realism as you may imagine (this theme comes into play very late in the novel, and is executed with deliberate care). Instead, The Mermaid follows the changing lives of characters linked by circumstance and encounters, with the main focus falling upon a defiant courtesan and a widowed merchant, with the legendary titled creature forming the crux of the bond which forms between them. This novel has been highly publicised here in the UK, and has been marketed in the same manner as The Miniaturist and The Essex Serpent. With good reason, I might add. Readers who enjoyed those novels would be well advised to pick this up! I was lucky to secure myself a copy of Waterstones&

List of Macmillan Collector's Library Editions

Image
In 2015, Pan Macmillan acquired the independent publisher, Collector's Library, who were famed for producing pocket-sized editions of classic literature in hardback form. From 2016, Macmillan began republishing the Collector's Edition Library with an updated jacket design. Featuring blue cloth hardcover binding, gilded edges and handy ribbon bookmarks, the jackets have been restyled with gorgeous colour endpapers in an exclusive design. Over 150 titles have been released so far, with even more to be published in the coming months. Several include original illustrations, particularly children's titles (such as Alice in Wonderland, The Little Prince and others), and all include a foreword, afterword or both by a leading writer in their field. These books are absolutely lovely, particularly as they are easy to fit into a pocket or slip into a bag for reading on the move. Here is a list of published and upcoming titles from the new Macmillan Collector's Edition library, ord
